The Sailing Adventures of Coyote
Coyote is a 2020 Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 catamaran sailboat. She was built in France, shipped to Florida for commissioning with sea trials scheduled for South Florida and the Bahamas. A 5,000 mile journey to San Diego via the Panama Canal is in order. We have owned offshore boats for 45 years and first became interested in catamarans during the 2016 Baja Haha, a sailing rally of 750 NM from San Diego to Cabo. During that sail, a Leopard 48, a typical cruising cat demonstrated that a cruising cat, well equipped and well sailed was a match for a monohull off the wind. A quick trip to the Miami boat show and spending time, for the first time, on a series of catamarans convinced us that, at our stage of sailing, a cruising cat would be perfect. A compromise, sure. No cat is pretty. No cruising cat is fast. But the huge cockpit, the main living area on the same level as the cockpit and three large staterooms sold us. We generally day sail with 6-10 people and like to cruise with 4 to 6 on board. The 47 is large, but not too large to handle. It is comfortable at sea, but we only spend about 15% of our time underway. The rest is at anchor or in the marina. While we are not live aboards, we spend a lot of time on board. Follow us on our journey.
